Thực hiện quyết định số 72/2008/QĐ-BGDĐT ngày 23/12/2008 của Bộ trưởng Bộ Giáo dục và Đào tạo về việc quy định tổ chức hoạt động thể thao ngoại khóa cho học sinh, sinh viên và ý kiến chỉ đạo của Phó Thủ tướng Nguyễn Thiện Nhân trong Hội nghị triển khai công tác ngành Văn hóa,Thể thao và Du lịch ngày 17/2/2009, tại Hà Nội “…vận động người dân tập thể dục thường xuyên, đưa võ cổ truyền vào nhà trường, phát động những cuộc thi võ cổ truyền trên cả nước…”, Bộ Giáo dục và Đào tạo có chủ trương phát triển các môn thể thao dân tộc trong nhà trường, trong đó có môn Vovinam là một môn võ truyền thống của Việt Nam đang được phổ biến rộng rãi trên thế giới và dự kiến sẽ đưa môn thể thao dân tộc này vào chương trình thi đấu chính thức từ Hội khỏe Phù Đổng toàn quốc lần thứ VIII-2012.
Để đạt được mục tiêu trên và tạo điều kiện cho các em học sinh có sức khỏe, thể lực tốt, tinh thần tự hào dân tộc và đẩy mạnh phong trào thi đua “Xây dựng trường học thân thiện - học sinh tích cực” trong nhà trường phổ thông, Bộ Giáo dục và Đào tạo đề nghị các sở giáo dục và đào tạo phối hợp với Liên đoàn Vovinam Việt Nam, Liên đoàn Vovinam các địa phương tuyên truyền phổ biến rộng rãi môn Vovinam và đưa môn Vovinam vào chương trình thể thao ngoại khóa, tổ chức tập huấn cho các giáo viên thể dục, thành lập các câu lạc bộ Vovinam trong các trường học trên địa bàn của tỉnh.
Bộ Giáo dục và đào tạo rất mong sự quan tâm của các sở giáo dục và đào tạo đối với sự phát triển của phong trào thể thao nói chung và thể thao dân tộc nói riêng trong nhà trường.

Implementing decision of 72/2008/QD-BGDDT on 23/12/2008 of the Minister of Education and Training that regulates extracurricular sports activities and organization for pupils, students and following directive of Deputy Prime Minister Nguyễn Thiện Nhân given at the conference on the development sector of Culture, Sport and Tourism on 2/17/2009, in Hà Nội, which reads: "... mobilize people to exercise regularly, bring traditional martial to schools, and promote competition in traditional martial arts throughout the country...", the Ministry of Education and Training will be expanding traditional sports in schools, among which Vovinam is a traditional martial art of Vietnam being widely known in the world and we expect to promote this traditional sport at national tournament programs such as Phù Đổng youth for health program nationally starting on its 8th event in 2012.
To achieve the above objectives and to create proper conditions for pupils to attain good health, great physical condition, national pride while promoting "building friendly schools and positive attitude students" in public schools, the Ministry of Education and Training recommend local education and training institutions cooperating with Vietnam Vovinam Federation and local Vovinam organizations to widely implement and promote Vovinam programs as extracurricular sports, providing training for gym teachers, and forming Vovinam clubs in all schools throughout provinces.
The Ministry of Education and Training requests the attention of all education and training organizations in development of sport programs in general and traditional sport programs in particular in schools.
